Tennis Everyone?
The answer for many of your New Year goals can be satisfied in one word…no, not diet but TENNIS! How? Glad you asked…
Weight Loss- You can burn up to 490 calories per hour playing a competitive singles match and 350 calories or more per hour playing doubles! Wow!
Live Longer- Studies have shown that people who have a large social network live longer! Playing tennis gives you an automatic social network worldwide. Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world with over 25million players in the United States alone. Anywhere you go, tennis is played the same way so meeting new friends with a similar interest is easy. In Tuscaloosa, the Tuscaloosa Tennis Association has leagues to fit every age and ability. All of the local country clubs have vibrant tennis programs with friendly members all looking for new players to meet and play with. Are you a University of Alabama student? The university has intramurals and an active club team and student tennis league. Just check out the Recreation courts on any sunny day! Think its too cold…the University of Alabama Tennis Booster Club allows its members access to the Indoor Tennis Facility and has organized play on Tuesday and Thursday nights during the winter.
Cardio Health- We all know we need to get more exercise. “Cardio Tennis” is the latest craze sweeping the nation. It doesn’t require that you know how to play tennis or that you even know how to swing a racket for that matter. The workout takes place on and around a tennis court with the instructor keeping you moving using tennis, music and props to give you a great workout. Indian Hills offers a cardio tennis class as do many other places worldwide, to find out more go to www.cardiotennis.com.
Volunteer- Want to get an immediate warm and fuzzy feeling? Then volunteer some of your time to one of our local tennis organizations. Call the Tuscaloosa Tennis Association to help out with junior tennis in Tuscaloosa. Last summer Jack Evans and his volunteers gave over 300 kids in west Alabama the opportunity to learn the sport of a lifetime during the free TTA Junior Clinics. While you’re at it don’t forget the big kids. UA Coaches Billy Pate and Jenny Mainz tennis teams need your support for their upcoming seasons. Whether you volunteer to bring snacks, help out with tournaments and player housing or just attend their matches your presence will make a difference. One other place to show you care is with our local school tennis teams. Tuscaloosa Middle School, Northridge, Hillcrest, Bryant, Tuscaloosa Academy, ACA, Holy Spirit, Tuscaloosa County High are just a few of the many school tennis teams that need your support. Contact your school today and find out if they have a team and how you can help.
Yes Tuscaloosa, TENNIS is the answer. So what are you waiting for?
